Cruising
Areas
British Columbia’s
coast is second to none
for offering a diverse
range of scenery and
activities. From quiet,
secluded coves to world
renown fishing spots,
BC offers something
for every member of
the family.
British Columbia is
1,300 kilometres (800
miles) long and 700
kilometres (430 miles)
wide covering a total
area of 94.8 million
hectares (366,000 square
miles) – approximately
four times the size
of Great Britain.
Our coastline covers
27,000 kilometres (almost
17,000 miles), complete
with islands, inlets,
fjords and beaches –
some only accessible
by boat.
BC’s mild climate
supports year-round
water activity, including
fishing, wildlife viewing,
sailing and cruising.
Activities to do while
chartering are limited
only by your imagination.
From the southern San
Juan Islands to the
northern Gulf Islands
and beyond to the Charlottes,
there is no lack of
places to go and things
to see.

Columbia’s coast,

– the section
covering the Islands
provides an excellent
overview of areas that
will be of interest
for those visiting by
boat.
Due to the warm Pacific
Ocean currents, British
Columbia’s weather
remains warm and dry
throughout the summer
months with mild, wet
winters.
Environment
Canada ( www.weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca
) maintains up to the
minute, plus long range
weather forecasts, including
marine reports as does
the Weather
Network ( www.theweathernetwork.com
), which also has an
up-to-the-minute webcam
in many locations throughout
British Columbia.
Sailors are also advised
to check the Notice
to Mariners Website
( www.notmar.gc.ca
) to ensure they have
up to date information
on current conditions.
